It is an affordable way to holiday and it encourages you to slow down and think. In Northern Norway, you can hike all night if you so choose, because the sun never sets and the light is invigorating. How far you hike or how many peaks you climb does not matter. Hiking is about moving at your own pace, taking the time to get to know the people you meet along the way and, not least, enjoy nature and your place in it. Northern Norway and Svalbard are jam-packed with spectacular hiking trails that offer both dazzling views and peace and quiet. Below are some favourites to enjoy—most of them doable without exhausting you completely:
The queens route in Vesterålen
Takes you through spectacular, lonely landscapes along the edge of the Atlantic between Nyksund and Stø, two of the most picturesque fishing villages along the entire coast. It is named after Queen Sonja, who hiked it for the first time in 1994 and was absolutely delighted with the experience.
Hike to a remote fishing village
In Finnmark, you can on the Nordkyn peninsula and hike to an old fishing village. From the plateau you will see the North Cape from a rare and beautiful angle.
